Second rower Pascal Pape will miss France's autumn internationals with a back injury. The Bourgoin player, who has 12 caps, was forced out of his side's Heineken Cup win over Glasgow on Friday.
After facing Australia on 5 November, France will also face Canada, Tonga and South Africa.
"I don't see myself playing for France while I'm only half-fit. The surgeon says an operation is not necessary but I need treatment urgently," said Pape.
