Cohen in action during the IRB Rugby Aid match at Twickenham |
England have been hit by another injury blow with the news that Ben Cohen will miss next Saturday's RBS Six Nations game at home to Italy. The Northampton wing suffered a fractured cheekbone suffered during the IRB Rugby Aid match.
Cohen was expected to replace the injured Jason Robinson against Italy.
England coach Andy Robinson said:" I'm very disappointed for Ben. I'm not intending to call up another player to take his place in the squad."
Cohen will return to Northampton and will discover the length of his recovery period after seeing specialists.
Gloucester's James Simpson-Daniel is now favourite to claim a starting berth for the Italy contest.
Cohen's injury is the latest in a long line of setbacks that have hit coach Andy Robinson.
England have lost their opening three matches of the Six Nations but Robinson has been without a host of key players.
Mike Tindall, Richard Hill, Julian White, Phil Vickery, Jonny Wilkinson, Will Greenwood and Stuart Abbott are all in the treatment room.
