Brian O'Driscoll and Gordon D'Arcy have been named in the Ireland team for Saturday's RBS Six Nations game against Scotland at Murrayfield. However, the Leinster centres remain doubtful after sustaining hamstring injuries in Sunday's win over Italy.
Scans on Monday evening suggested that the injuries were not as serious as first suspected although they will have further fitness tests later this week.
The only change sees Wasps flanker Johnny O'Connor replacing Denis Leamy.
"Brian and Gordon both had scans on Monday night, and things were not as bad as we thought," O'Sullivan told BBC Sport.
"Both have mild strains and we will give them as long as they need to recover."
Neither player were thought likely to be involved in the second weekend of the Six Nations after they hobbled off in Ireland's tough opener in Rome.
O'Driscoll was on crutches when he arrived in Dublin on Monday afternoon although that was mainly to take weight off the damaged leg. "It is only 48 hours since the game itself and with a six-day turnaround before the next match, I'm not about to pull the trigger just yet," added O'Sullivan.
"You have to give the guys every chance to fully recover."
Kevin Maggs would be an obvious replacement at centre while Shane Horgan could also be moved from wing.
Ulster wing Tommy Bowe could also be asked to travel with the squad to Scotland as a precautionary measure.
O'Connor will be winning his third cap after making his debut in the victory over South Africa last November.
