Ireland waiting on injured pair
Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll
Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll and fellow centre Gordon D'Arcy are to have scans on the hamstring injuries they picked up in Sunday's win over Italy.

The Leinster duo limped off towards the end of the 28-17 victory and are both doubts for Saturday's RBS Six Nations clash against Scotland in Edinburgh.

Both players were due to have immediate check-ups after the squad returned from Rome on Monday afternoon.

Coach Eddie O'Sullivan is due to name his team for Saturday on Tuesday.

Initial reports on the pair's fitness were mixed.

"Gordon says there is a chance that he could make it next week," full-back Geordan Murphy told BBC Sport after the game.

"But I suspect Brian could be out for a couple of weeks at least. His injury looks the more serious. Hopefully they will both be back soon."

Coach Eddie O'Sullivan says it is too early to rule either player out.

"They have hamstring injuries but we don't yet know the extent of the problems," he said.

"I think Gordon will be under pressure for next week because he pulled up at full tilt and probably did a bit of damage.

"Brian was in a ruck at the end, got hit from behind and was trapped on the floor in the splits position.

"I'm not quite sure about Brian - we will know more in the morning."

If O'Driscoll is sidelined, then Paul O'Connell will step up to lead the side against Scotland.

The loss of O'Driscoll and D'Arcy took the shine off Ireland's hard-fought win over the Italians.

"It was very hard out there, but it was nothing more than we expected," said Murphy.
