Three weeks ago, I would have said New Zealand were all set for a 3-0 series win - but then Sir Clive Woodward pulls a fast one.
He's a wily old dog and showed that even more than usual with his Test team selection. To be honest, it's hard to make any sense of some of his choices but they've left every All Blacks fan with some niggling doubts.
The Lions will rely heavily on Wilkinson and Jones on Saturday |
And, if he pulls it off, then I will be the first one to stick my hand up and say "congratulations".
When I saw Jonny Wilkinson's name on the team list at inside centre I was really surprised. But when you think about it, Clive's selection mirrors that of Graham Henry with the All Blacks.
Aaron Mauger and Wilkinson will effectively cancel each other out in their style of play - they are very similar.
And in Wilkinson and Stephen Jones, the Lions have a left-right boot combination, as the All Blacks do with Daniel Carter and Mauger.
The back row is the other baffling one. With that and his reliance on England players, Clive has ripped open the debate about pushing yourself for the Test side and you've got to think he probably decided on this XV some time ago.
At the heart of it, he has basically turned round to the Welsh guys and said "you're not good enough", and gone with guys who were tried and tested... but as long as two years ago.
Clive's obviously got some kind of tactical magic up his sleeve and the time for slamming him can come after the game should it all go awry.
I am more concerned about the All Blacks being over-confident rather than anything else.
The Lions are tripping along, getting a run out every week.
Most of the New Zealand public have written the Lions off and are talking more about the margin of victory in the first Test rather than worrying about whether the men in black will win it.
 | I would have liked to see Tana challenge Wilkinson and open the way to release his talented back-row runners |
The All Blacks are a little bit unprepared. The players are going into a match against arguably the toughest opponents of their careers with only a 91-0 thrashing of Fiji to prepare them.
That and two and a half weeks training is not ideal preparation.
The New Zealand public and media are doing their usual thing of thinking their rugby side are unbeatable. But that has been disproven so many times before.
A team needs to be brimming with confidence, in fact arrogance. But there is a fine line between that and over-confidence and that, to me, is the All Blacks' biggest weakness.
In terms of selection, I think Henry has got it about right.
Justin Marshall will be looking to go out with a bang, but there is one area I am not keen on - and that is his choice of centre partnership.
When they demolished France last year - possibly the best All Black display I have ever seen - Tana Umaga was moved to inside centre and Conrad Smith was employed outside him.
They should have kept to that as I would have liked to see Tana challenge Wilkinson and open the way to release his talented back-row runners.
Saturday's Test is going to be about kicking - the two team selections suggest as much - and high balls.
And both defensive lines will be challenged by tactical kicking.
Whatever the outcome - and I think New Zealand will just edge it - this game is going to see some of the best footballers in the world flying.
It is going to be explosive and I cannot wait.
