Wales legend questions Woodward
Sir Clive Woodward
Williams has questioned whether Woodward even has a tour plan
Former Lion JPR Williams has questioned Sir Clive Woodward's coaching ability.

Williams, part of the only Lions party to win in New Zealand (in 1971), also said the size of the touring party would "come back to haunt" Woodward.

Willims wrote in the Sunday News: "I am beginning to wonder if Sir Clive Woodward knows what he is doing.

"I want to be supportive. I want them to do to the All Blacks what we did. But I just can't figure out what his plan is - if there is a plan."

Williams believes the 45-man touring party, which has since been added to following injuries, was too big because of the need to give everyone a game.

And he warned this was leading to a "ridiculous scenario" that could cost them the series.

Williams believes Woodward will name an England-heavy line-up for the first Test against New Zealand, which takes place on Saturday.

"A week out from the first Test and we have yet to see the team play with any pattern," said Williams. "The only certainty is that the Test team will be stacked full of Englishmen.

"I don't rate any of the England second-rowers. But one or two will make the side. The back row will be England. And, of course, Jonny Wilkinson will get the nod ahead of Stephen Jones. So much for Wales' Six Nations win.

"The Welsh guys like Williams and Jones won't be given a chance because I think Woodward will pick a lot of English players and play that boring game."

Woodward's clearest indication of his Test side came in the win against Wellington, with what is effectively his first-choice back division named.

But Williams added: "If that was the shadow Test side playing against Wellington then the Lions are in trouble.

"Jonny Wilkinson and Gavin Henson looked like complete strangers. The sight of the Lions number 10 and number 12 running into each other would have the All Blacks coaches in stitches."
