Rokocoko left out by All Blacks
Joe Rokocoko
Rokocoko has a great scoring record for New Zealand
Joe Rokocoko has been left out of the New Zealand squad for the Test series against the British & Irish Lions.

The big wing, who has scored 27 tries in 23 Tests, has lost his spot to his cousin Sitiveni Sivivatu, who scored four tries on his debut against Fiji.

Winger Rico Gear, who has shone in the Super 12, is also in the 26-man squad.

Hooker Anton Oliver is included despite being out for five weeks with injury, but there is no place for Maori skipper Jonno Gibbes or flanker Marty Holah.

Gibbes, however, along with hooker Derren Witcombe - who will cover for Oliver - will train with the squad.

New Zealand coach Graham Henry said that poor form had cost Rokocoko his place.

NZ MAIN SELECTION DILEMMAS
Full-back: Muliaina/MacDonald
Wings: Howlett/Sivivatu/Gear
Outside centre: Umaga/Smith/Muliaina/Nonu
Inside centre: Mauger/Umaga
Scrum-half: Kelleher/Marshall
Prop: Somerville/Hayman
Lock: Williams/Ryan
"We think the other three are playing better than him at the moment," said the former Wales coach.

"We are sure he will play many more Tests for the All Blacks in the future."

Holah was surprisingly omitted despite an outstanding performance for the Maori against the Lions on Saturday.

Number eight Rodney So'oialo, who moved to the open side when Richie McCaw went off against Fiji, is likely to act as cover.

Mose Tuiali'i and Sione Lauaki, who made his debut against Fiji, are the other loose-forward options alongside Jerry Collins.

Otago lock James Ryan, who impressed in his first Test against Fiji, was also retained.

Full-back Leon MacDonald, who scored the only Maori try on Saturday, has been recalled after returning from Japan.

His inclusion raises the possibility that full-back Mils Muliaina could switch to outside centre, with captain Tana Umaga moving to inside centre.

The All Blacks go into the Test series boosted by their record 91-0 victory over Fiji but Henry is not getting carried away, despite the Lions losing to the New Zealand Maori.

"I don't think we should get complacent as Kiwis," said Henry.

"The Lions are holding back for the big Test matches in a couple of weeks, I'm not taking too much out of their performance against the Maori.

"We'll see it happen in Christchurch in a couple of weeks and we shouldn't read too much into what's happening right now."

New Zealand squad:

Forwards: Keven Mealamu, Anton Oliver, Carl Hayman, Campbell Johnstone, Greg Somerville, Tony Woodcock, Chris Jack, James Ryan, Ali Williams, Jerry Collins, Sione Lauaki, Richie McCaw, Rodney So'oialo, Mose Tuiali'i.
