Bulloch looking for improvement
Scotland captain Gordon Bulloch
Scotland captain Gordon Bulloch admits improvements are needed, despite a record win over Japan on Saturday.

Australia are opponents this weekend at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

And Bulloch told BBC Sport: "Japan were under-strength, but all credit to the boys for putting in the effort to ensure a record score.

"We know we let ourselves down in set-pieces and that next Saturday will be a huge step up. But, if we rectify some things, we have a chance of winning."

Scotland's 100-8 victory over Japan at McDiarmid Park surpassed the 89-0 victory over the Ivory Coast, but Matt Williams' side still faced media criticism.

It will be a huge occasion

"It got the boys into the habit of scoring points, but obviously we have to work on the things that let us down, like the line-outs," admitted Bulloch.

"There's a lot to work on, but we have shown on our last three meetings with Australia that we can score points.

"If we can keep it tight and give ourselves a chance in the last 20 minutes then we could record a victory."

Bulloch will be warning his team to be wary of a Wallaby backlash, Australia having been beaten 27-14 by France in Paris.

"I think Australia will come to Hampden and try to right the wrongs of Paris last Saturday, but I don't think it makes it easier or harder for ourselves," said the hooker.

Bulloch was looking forward to playing at Hampden Park, normally the home of Scotland's international football team.

"It will be a huge occasion, especially with me being a Glasgow player," he said.

"We enjoyed playing in Perth last weekend and, if we can get the same response from the crowd in Glasgow, we have a real chance of victory."
