England have called up Newcastle scrum-half Hall Charlton and Sale wing Mark Cueto - both outside the Elite Player Squad - for training next week. New head coach Andy Robinson has also recalled wing Dan Luger, while Will Greenwood, Ben Kay and Jason Robinson return after missing the summer tour.
Centre Henry Paul is included in the 40-man group while Lewis Moody is back after a 10-month injury absence.
Jonny Wilkinson is one of four fly-halves named despite his arm injury.
Charlie Hodgson, Alex King and Olly Barkley will compete for the number 10 jersey in the likely absence of Wilkinson for at least the opening Test against Canada on 13 November.
But the World Cup hero still hopes to play some part in the remaining matches against South Africa and Australia. "I am hopefully not going to be out very long at all," he said when picking up an OBE at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.
"I am taking it day by day and am really positive about it. I would like to think I have already beaten quite a lot of it already."
Charlton, involved when England played the Barbarians in May, admitted he was "thrilled" at his call-up.
"I went down to train with the squad at Loughborough a couple of weeks ago, and at the time Andy Robinson said he was going to reduce that training squad to 40, so I'm very happy to have made it this far," he said.
Gloucester prop Phil Vickery is also included in the squad on his comeback from injury, despite the concerns of his club coach Nigel Melville. Melville believes the player, who made his first start of the season last Saturday, is not yet ready to return to the Test arena after six months out with a back injury.
"It's very early in the rehab process and it's not up to me, but a Test week would be a big jump for him," Melville said. "He's not firing on all cylinders yet."
A trio of uncapped Gloucester forwards - lock Alex Brown, flanker Andy Hazell and number eight James Forrester - are among seven players from the club included.
Other uncapped players in the party include emerging Leicester lock Louis Deacon and club colleague Harry Ellis. "We are clearly entering an exciting time with this group of players," said Robinson.
"There are some new and young faces deserving a place alongside our more established players.
"Injuries have also been a factor but I am close to deciding my starting XV for our first game against Canada."
