Johnson led England to World Cup victory on his last visit down under |
Former England rugby captain Martin Johnson escaped injury after a head-on car accident in New Zealand on Tuesday. Johnson, in the country on a speaking tour, was en route to a reunion of his old King Country team when his vehicle was in collision with another car.
Freak hail storms and a greasy road are thought to have contributed to the accident, but no-one was hurt.
"I always have my seatbelt on and it definitely saved me," said Johnson. "No-one was injured, so no drama."
The reunion with Johnson's former provincial team-mates was cancelled.
The lock played for the King Country union in 1990 and 1991 and was selected for the Junior All Blacks on a tour of Australia before returning to England.
