Qu'sland Reds 41-5 Scotland
Elton Flatley led Queensland Reds to a one-sided victory
Scotland's tour Down Under got off to the worst possible start as they were outclassed by the Queensland Reds.

The inexperienced tourists could not live with the Reds' invention and pace.

Chris Latham and Wendell Sailor managed two tries apiece for the Super 12 side, with Drew Mitchell, Scott Barton and Tai McIssac adding scores.

Shaun Lamont crossed for Scotland's only score, while full-back Robbie Kydd was taken off on a stretcher and taken to hospital with concerns over his jaw.

Scotland coach Matt Williams has now lost his first seven matches in charge but was not too downhearted.

The Scots' starting line-up against the strongest possible home side side - featuring five current Wallabies - had an average age of just over 24.

"The whole point of these games with the younger players is the future, to give them the opportunity to play high-quality games against high-quality opposition," said Williams.

"You could see in the first 40 minutes they struggled to adjust to the pace of the game.

"They held their shape, but it was the one-on-one tackles and a little bit of inexperience in the line-out and the scrum."

With ten minutes gone, the superb Elton Flatley launched a magnificent miss-pass along the line and Mitchell set Latham clear.

Mitchell cracked the defence again seven minutes later, scooting past Hugo Southwell for the Reds' second score.

As Scotland pushed forward in vain search of a riposte, 20 minutes in, Kydd was caught by Scott Barton and carried off.

Fly-half Gordon Ross, whose kicking for touch was woeful, made a dart for the line but was held up and then bundled into touch.

It was the closest Scotland got before the Reds spread the ball wide again and it was Barton who scampered over in the corner.

Flatley was proving too hot to handle and he sent another, wonderful teasing pass along the line; Latham burst onto it and through Ben Hinshelwood before handing on to Sailor for Queensland's fourth.

A 29-0 half-time lead was secured when Flatley sauntered through the Scotland defence and fed Latham who celebrated his 50th try for Queensland.

Both sides rang the changes at half-time and with Flatley playing just three minutes after the break, Queensland lost much of their shape.

Sailor added his second score after barging lock Gareth Morton out of his path.

A loose pass from Craig Hamilton denied John Petrie a certain try but Scotland finally worked their only score of the match for Glasgow's Lamont to dive over in the corner.

But the Reds rounded off a dominant display by stealing a Scottish lineout and McIssac burrowed over for the seventh and final try of a demoralising evening for Scotland.
