Spencer will miss the November tour |
Fly-half Carlos Spencer has pulled out of New Zealand's November tour of Europe to recover from a knee injury. "I want to get the knee right and just get excited about rugby again so I'm taking the time off to get ready for Super 12," Spencer told Planet Rugby.
"I'm thinking long term - I'm not getting any younger and it's all about number one at the moment.
"For me to be right for the Super 12 means I have to take a bit of time out and get my injuries right."
All Black coach Graham Henry backed Spencer's decision.
"I think Carlos needs some space to get his body right and it's a wise decision," said Henry.
"It's very important that players don't go on this tour if they're not 100% and Carlos is nowhere near 100%."
The All Blacks begin their tour against Italy in Rome on 13 November before playing Wales and France, finishing with a game against the Barbarians at Twickenham.
