Tight challenge for Morris
Darren Morris
After his recall from three years in the international wilderness, Darren Morris was charged with the task of shoring up Wales' creaking set piece.

"I've spoken to Darren and told him I see him more as a tight-head prop," said new Wales coach Mike Ruddock.

"The main job I need there is to stabilise the scrum, get the angles right, pressurise the opposition - and not go backwards."

The lack of a scrummaging, mobile tight-head stymied Wales' Six Nations.

Former Wales coach Steve Hansen used loose-head Gethin Jenkins in the role, the Warriors youngster excelling in open play but suffering at the scrum.

"At loose-head I need more mobile players like Duncan Jones and Gethin Jenkins, should I choose to play Gethin there," said Ruddock.

"Darren's experiences with Leicester, Wales and Swansea should allow him to do what I need at tight-head if selected.

"It's a very demanding position, but by taking five props we will be able to make changes as and when we need it."

Ruddock's comments suggest he may start with two props on the bench for the summer games against the hard-scrummaging Pumas and Springboks.

Adam Jones, who has missed the last three Wales games with injury, could share the tight-head duties with Morris.

Morris, 29, last played for Wales in November 2001 against Australia and never featured under coach Steve Hansen, who questioned his fitness.

The 15-cap man, who made the Lions tour to Australia in 2001, insists that last summer's move to Leicester has left him ready for the challenge.

"I've worked on my condition, those problems are in the past," he told BBC Sport Wales.

"Heading to England was the right move for me. Leicester have the highest expectations, much of it driven by the players themselves.

Darren has worked extremely hard to get from where he was
Leicester coach John Wells
"It's been lonely in the international wilderness, I'm now the new boy in the squad, but I'm just really looking forward to the challenge.

"Argentina will be a real test for us, they're the best scrummaging side in the world.

"To compete the power has to come from all eight forwards, but I believe we can be very tight and have a good time in Argentina."

Leicester coach John Wells said that Morris' recall was well deserved.

"I am absolutely delighted for him," said the Tigers boss.

"Darren has worked extremely hard to get from where he was at the start of the season to where he is now.

"He has lost 16kg since July through sheer hard work.

"I believe he has the ability to get even better. As his conditioning levels improve, so will his influence on the game."
