Griffiths spent 10 years coaching the Wales rugby league team |
Mike Ruddock has completed his Wales back-up team by reappointing Clive Griffiths as defence coach. Griffiths held the post under Ruddock's predecessor Steve Hansen before falling out with the Kiwi.
He has been working alongside Ruddock at the Dragons and his return to the Wales fold was widely expected.
"Gone are the days when one man had all the answers, you need specialists in place," said Ruddock. "I'm really pleased with this team, it's strong."
Griffiths' appointment follows the news that Hansen's back-up team of Scott Johnson (skills coach) and Andrew Hore (conditioning) will stick with Wales.
Capped by Wales against England when a full-back with Llanelli in 1979, Griffiths switched codes to join St Helens and remained with the league game.
He spent 10 years as coach to the Welsh rugby league team.
With limited resources his side reached the semi-final stage of the World Cup twice and won the European Championship for the first time in 57 years.
He worked as defence coach with Swansea on his return to union, before taking an assistant role with Wales under Graham Henry in 2001.
