Wilkinson is favourite to succeed Dallaglio as England captain |
Caretaker England coach Andy Robinson says the team's new captain should get the job on a long-term basis. Lawrence Dallaglio was skipper for just eight games and Robinson wants a leader who will be around for years not weeks.
"The captain has to be guaranteed a place and have the respect of the people in the room and to be there for the long term," said Robinson.
Jonny Wilkinson, Phil Vickery, Richard Hill and Will Greenwood are the leading candidates to succeed Dallaglio.
Wilkinson is the favourite, but Robinson, who is in temporary charge of England following Sir Clive Woodward's decision to step down, has also highlighted the claims of Greenwood, Hill and Vickery.
"We have got some great people in there," said Robinson.
"Jonny Wilkinson is obviously one; Will Greenwood has that renewed spark and the enthusiasm to perform again; Richard Hill has led the side well, and so has Phil Vickery."
England's next game is against Canada at Twickenham on 13 November.

South Africa are the opponents a week later, followed by Australia on 27 November.
Robinson has already been told he will be in charge for those games but hopes his stint will last a lot longer.
"I firmly believe I am good enough to do the job. I have got every confidence in myself," he said.
"The thing for me is the challenge of the autumn internationals, then the Six Nations. We will deal with the World Cup when it comes, if I am involved.
"Obviously, I expect to be involved. I want to be involved, and I want to lead it. "I believe that we have the ability to win the next World Cup, and that is the challenge.
"No side has ever won it back-to-back."
