Wales began the defence of their Six Nations title in fine form as they out-classed Scotland in Bridgend.

James Merriman grabbed two second-half tries after an Ifan Evans try and five Lee Thomas penalties had given Wales a comfortable 20-6 half-time lead.

Nick Macleod's try early in the second half put the result beyond doubt and Wales held on with ease as the game petered out.

Scotland's points came from two Brian Archibald penalties.

It was Wales' eighth-successive win over Scotland and the 18th in 20 matches at this level.
