Lomu desperately needs a kidney transplant |
The International Rugby Board is keen to employ former All Black Jonah Lomu as a worldwide ambassador for the game. Lomu's career has been curtailed by a serious kidney disease, which means he is hooked up to a dialysis machine eight hours a day, six times a week.
He hopes to play again but could be tempted by the IRB's offer while he waits for a donor.
"The IRB is very receptive to using Jonah to spread the rugby word," said his manager, Phil Kingsley Jones.
Lomu played 63 Tests for New Zealand as an explosive wing-three-quarter and scored 37 tries in an eight-year career.
However, the 28-year-old now has trouble walking and has been told he could end up in a wheelchair if he does not receive a kidney transplant.
