Johnson led England to World Cup glory in Australia |
England flanker Neil Back has urged World Cup-winning skipper Martin Johnson to shelve any retirement plans. Johnson is expected to decide on his future after Leicester's Heineken Cup match with Ulster on Saturday.
The 33-year-old was in superb form for England in Australia, confirming his position as the tournament's best second row with some titanic displays.
"Why should he retire when he is better than anyone else around and a good captain to boot," said Back.
"If you are picking an England team which will see us through to the next World Cup then blatantly Johnno won't be in it - nor will I, or a handful of others from the current squad.

"But if I were picking my best England team now, then Johnno would still be in it.
"I would like to see him carry on playing for England - in my mind he is still the best second row in the world."
Back admitted Johnson would be sorely missed if he announces his international retirement on Saturday.
"Martin and I have been good friends for many years. I've been playing with him at Leicester since 1990 and we played representative rugby before that," said Back.
"We respect each other immensely. He's been a fantastic role model for youngsters and a true ambassador for the sport."
