Wyatt was a surprise ommission from Wales' World Cup squad |
Wales reject Chris Wyatt says he is "devastated" to have missed out on a place in Steve Hansen's World Cup squad. The Llanelli Scarlets lock, capped 36 times, lost out to Brent Cockbain, who made his international debut in the tournament build-up win over Romania.
"I've put a lot of time and effort into trying to get into the World Cup squad," Wyatt told BBC Sport.
"It's obviously very hard when you find out that you're not a part of it.
"It's hard to put into words what I'm feeling at the moment."
Coach Hansen revealed that Wyatt was "very, very unlucky to miss out", and insisted he still had a future with Wales.
But Wyatt found no consolation in Hansen's words, and said he felt hard done by.
"I wanted to test myself against the best in the world, and the place to do that is at the World Cup.
"I've been gearing myself up for it and felt I was in a position to be part of the squad.
"It's a hell of a blow not to make it. There are a lot of players in the same boat as me, but there's nothing we can do about it now.
"They've made their decision and I've got to live with it. I'll be putting all my energy into the Scarlets."
