Hickie and Maggs all clear

Denis Hickie and Kevin Maggs came through fitness tests on Thursday morning and will be on duty in Ireland's final World Cup warm-up match against Scotland on Saturday.

Both players picked up groin problems during training on Wednesday, but they had no problems during the squad's final training session before heading out to Edinburgh on Thursday evening.

Irish management have now released Ulster wing Tyrone Howe and Munster centre Rob Henderson to play for their respective provinces this weekend.

Hickie, who scored four tries against Italy to become Ireland's record try scorer, will again occupy the left wing with Maggs partnering Brian O'Driscoll in midfield.

Hickie was one of just six players to retain their places in the Irish team for Saturday's match at Murrayfield as coach Eddie O'Sullivan pondered his World Cup options.

Ronan O'Gara is back in the team, taking over from David Humphreys at fly-half.

The Munster number 10 broke his scaffoid during the summer's Oceanic tour and had to have a pin inserted to help the healing process.

O'Sullivan has named a strong side for the game at Murrayfield where Ireland finally broke a long-standing hoodoo during last season's Six Nations.

In all, the side shows nine changes from the team which started against Italy with only Brian O'Driscoll, Marcus Horan, Reggie Corrigan, Eric Miller, Victor Costello and Hickie retained.

Miller is named at open side flanker and may need to produce a big game to hold off the claims of David Wallace for a back-row World Cup place.

Wallace will start at blindside flanker at Murrayfield with Costello operating a number eight.

Keith Wood returns to captain the side while O'Gara will be partnered in the half-backs by Peter Stringer.

No Ulster players are included in the team, but Humphreys and tight-head Simon Best can be expected to get a run at some stage.
