Argentina complete clean sweep
Felipe Contepomi
Contepomi inspired the Pumas to victory
Felipe Contepomi scored two tries and a penalty as Argentina beat Canada 62-22 on Saturday to win the Pan American Rugby championship for the fifth time in succession.

The win ensured the Pumas kept their undefeated record in the Pan American event.

"I think we brought a lot of pizzaz to the field today," Contepomi said.

The one-sided win was the third in a row for the Argentines, who defeated Uruguay 57-0 and beat the United States 42-8 in their two other matches.

Scrum-half Agustin Pichot wasted little time in putting Argentina on the scoreboard, outrunning several Canadian defenders to score a try three minutes into the match.

But Canada's Winston Stanley quickly answered, and the Canadians opened an early 7-5 lead.

In the ninth minute, Contepomi scored a try and nailed a penalty 10 minutes later as Argentina began to take control of the game.

Argentina opened the second half by scoring three tries in the first 10 minutes of play as Jose Nunez Piossek, Rolando Martin, and Contepomi all scored.

In the day's other match, the United States defeated Uruguay 31-17.

American Phillip Elof scored the first try in less than 18 seconds as the US team dominated from the outset. Paul Emerick and Riann Van Zyl also scored tries in the first half.
