Charvis handed captaincy
Colin Charvis
Charvis will be Wales' fourth captain in as many matches
Colin Charvis will captain an experimental Wales side in their final World Cup warm-up match against Scotland at the Millennium Stadium next Saturday.

Charvis and hooker Robin McBryde are the only survivors from the team that crashed to a 10th consecutive Test defeat in the 43-9 loss to England.

"We are being consistent with our policy," said coach Steve Hansen. "Right from the start we said we would only use our top players once.

"Colin is the one exception and we feel he will benefit from playing on successive Saturdays, though he is in good enough physical condition."

Uncapped Gwent Dragons centre Hal Luscombe is named among the replacements, along with rookie's Huw Bennett, Rhys Oakley, Mike Phillips and Nicky Robinson.

Scarlets scrum-half Phillips is set to win his first cap in Wednesday's match against Romania in Wrexham.

Charvis was quick defend a much criticised Hansen after the heavy defeat against a second-string England side.

The coach has insisted he will not quit despite another demoralising defeat, and Charvis says the players should take their share of responsibility for the side's failings.

Hopefully that elusive victory will come very shortly

Said Charvis: "The team didn't do itself justice and immediately everyone points their finger at the coach rather than the players in the jersey.

"Steve doesn't deserve all the flack he gets - we should bear the brunt of it. But Steve is the sort of man who will sit in a press conference and take all the criticism rather than leave it to the players to take.

"Most players are very happy to be under Steve's command and very happy to be playing for Wales. We all believe in what he's doing and he believes in what he's doing - we've just got to support him as much as possible.

"It's not my decision whether Steve stays or goes and it's not his. As he's said, if someone wants to remove him they will remove him.

"But as it stands Steve is our coach and he's made lots of progress with the team. I believe we have to stick with him and carry on with the current regime.

"Hopefully that elusive victory will come very shortly."
