Bath's Olly Barkley contributed the majority of England's points |
Olly Barkley scored 22 points as England A opened their Tokyo tour with a 37-10 win over a Japan Select XV. The Bath fly-half ran in two second-half tries and also kicked 12 points in total as Jim Mallinder's side turned an 11-10 lead into a comprehensive victory.
England, who beat the United States in the Churchill Cup final at Vancouver last weekend, scored four unanswered tries in the second half.
Pete Anglesea, Phil Christophers and Dan Scarbrough were the other England try scorers, while Japan's points came from an Ohata Daisuke try and a penalty and conversion from Hirose Keiji.
England rarely gave the hosts a chance to go on the attack in the second half.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday at Tokyo's National Stadium.
Japan have lost all seven previous encounters against England dating back to 1971.
