Hinshelwood out for Scots
Ben Hinshelwood (centre) played well in the autumn series
Ben Hinshelwood (centre) missed out on the Six Nations
Worcester centre Ben Hinshelwood has been ruled out of the Scotland game against the Barbarians and the two-Test tour of South Africa.

The 26-year-old had hoped to prove his fitness to Scotland coach Ian McGeechan ahead of the summer games after fracturing a leg in a club game against Otley in January.

Hinshelwood impressed during the autumn Test series but, after meeting with the squad for a training session on Monday, was ruled out.

But the Scotland boss is refusing to rule Hinshelwood out of his World Cup plans.

McGeechan said: "He was assessed by the coaches and our medical staff during training and we reckon he's still about one month away from being fully ready for games.

"We'll be sitting down with Ben to plan his involvement in our World Cup training programme."

Bordeaux-Begles centre James McLaren missed the training session at Murrayfield with an upper thigh injury.

Saracens hooker Rob Russell is required by his club for the Zurich Premiership wildcard play-off against Leeds on Wednesday and Glasgow full-back Glenn Metcalfe missed out due to a family bereavement.

McGeechan will announce his squad for the games against the Barbarians on 28 May and the tour of South Africa on Thursday.
