All the action as the Springboks narrowly defeat Scotland in a scintillating first Test in Durban.


Full-time: South Africa 29-25 Scotland

80mins+4: In an incredible end to the game Nathan Hines nearly seals a famous win but he knocks the ball over the line.

80mins+3: The forwards burrow in but to no avail. Joost van der Westhuizen gets sin binned for a professional foul and a penalty is awarded to Scotland.

80mins+2: Townsend nearly bounces his way through, likewise Logan but both men are felled just short. Their efforts result in a Scottish penalty in front of the posts. Surely their final chance.

80mins+1: Murray wins the lineout for Scotland as his fellow forwards push on. The Springboks stand firm, though.

80mins: Scotland pick up penalty after penalty as they steadily force their way up the field in a thrilling end to the dying minutes.

79mins: In a tense finale, the Springboks win it back with a penalty. Fresh sub Jaco van der Westhuyzen kicks for territory.

77mins: South Africa take their turn to knock on, this time in the lineout on their 10-metre line.

76mins: Metcalfe is brought crashing down by a superb tackle from Cobus Visagie, which causes the Scottish full-back to knock on - scrum to South Africa.

75mins: Townsend desperately tries to find a way through for his backs but, for now, the Springboks hold firm.

72mins: The missed kick fails to dampen Springbok ambitions as, in the resulting melee, the ball is spread out to Halstead, who scores in front of his home crowd. Koen makes the conversion
South Africa 29-25 Scotland

71mins: Scotland are once again let down by their lack of discipline and Koen has a far easier chance than his earlier effort straight in front of the posts. But remarkably it strikes the uprights.

68mins: Under the pressure Scotland capitulate once more and concede a penalty. Koen slots over a tough one to cut the deficit still further.
South Africa 22-25 Scotland

67mins: Robbie Kempson is the latest substitution.

66mins: South Africa's score has brought them to life and they continue to cause no end of problems for the Scots.

64mins: Juan Smith comes on for his Test debut instead of Pedrie Wannenburg, as Selborne Boome and Martin Leslie also join the fray.

62mins: Terblanche scores as South Africa succeed for the first time in spreading the ball down their backs. Terblanche drags Metcalfe and Craig over the line for his try. Koen converts

61mins: Van der Westhuizen continually tries to launch attacks but Scotland's defence smothers their opposition attackers in a flash. Trevor Halstead comes within a whisker of scoring before being bundled into touch.

58mins: South Africa are judged to be going over the top. So Paterson opts for another penalty kick, which makes it nicely over.

55mins: Paterson nudges Scotland further ahead with his first penalty of the afternoon.

54mins: The Scots' scintillating running rugby shows no signs of abating as they continue to run rings around their rivals. Victor Matfield is sin binned for an early tackle to further hamper his side's cause.

51mins: Scotland are reprimanded for going over the top. Koen makes no mistake with his spot kick to keep the Springboks in the hunt. South Africa 12-19 Scotland

48mins: Logan finds himself in acres of space, ripping through the very heart of the Springbok defence on an excellent break. As his own chase falters, the Scots continue to recycle the ball before Paterson runs in for try number three. A stunning score, which Paterson converts.
South Africa 9-19 Scotland

47mins: Some Scottish uncertainty gives Koen his fourth penalty opportunity. He takes his record in the game to three kicks out of four.
South Africa 9-12 Scotland

46mins: Springbok coach Rudolf Straeuli must have given his players an ear bashing at half-time as his side string together a far more accomplished performance so far in this half.

44mins: The Springboks make an absolute mockery of a good attacking opportunity as Ricardo Loubscher wings the ball behind the backs of the men around him before Ashwin Willemse trips up over his own feet.

42mins: Terblanche pulls off an absolute screamer of a kick from his 22 to the opposition's.

41mins: Townsend kicks the game back into life.

Half-time: South Africa 6-12 Scotland

40mins: The Springboks desperately try to force their way through the Scot defence and net a penalty for their efforts. Koen cuts the deficit to six points.
South Africa 6-12 Scotland

39mins: South Africa still boast the upper hand in the front row but a penalty is awarded against prop Lawrence Sephaka for bringing down the scrum.

38mins: The two sides swap scrums after a string of knock-ons.

36mins: Koen looks happier hoofing the ball upfield at every opportunity rather than risking the ball with his backs. This time he hits it straight out but Scotland are penalised for offside.

34mins: Scotland's back-row forwards are first to the ball every time at the moment. It leaves the Springboks in a complete muddle.

31mins: Andy Craig scores Scotland's second try as two Springboks lunge for Kenny Logan and leave Craig spare to touch down in the same corner as White. Paterson fluffs his conversion, though.
South Africa 3-12 Scotland

30mins: Another good Scottish break, this time from the feet of Metcalfe, and another South African knock-on - scrum to the Scots.

29mins: Bulloch is caught out of position in the lineout and the referee awards a penalty to South Africa. This time Koen makes no mistake.
South Africa 3-7 Scotland

27mins: Koen pulls off a stunning break and nearly chips and chases the ball to the line. He is briefly impeded and Bryan Redpath has time to halt the threat.

26mins: The Springboks are let down by their ninth handling error of the game so far and, as a result, their attack ends with a scrum gifted to their opponents.

24mins: Townsend skews a kick straight into touch as South Africa manage to put on a modicum of pressure. But moments later the Scots have the ball back.

22mins: Koen makes amends for his missed penalty with an excellent punt deep into Scottish territory. But his lineout jumpers fall foul of the referee at the resulting throw - penalty to Scotland.

20mins: The Scots are penalised for going over the top - their first indiscretion of the day. But Koen fails with the spot kick.

18mins: Scotland are running the ball sweetly across all corners of the field. As they near the Springbok line all Koen can do is kick the ball away.

16mins: Scott Murray outjumps to win the opposition throw from Victor Matfield's clutches.

14mins: Jason White scores in the left-hand corner for Scotland and deservedly so. A great series of passing moves through backs and forwards alike comes down the line and White helds off his tackler to score. Paterson succeeds with an impressive conversion
South Africa 0-7 Scotland

12mins: Scotland break the gain line for the first time in the match with Paterson and then Kenny Logan in quick succession. It gives Gregor Townsend time for a drop goal, which hits the uprights. Terblanche concedes a five-metre scrum as a result.

10mins: Scotland are briefly in disarray as Metcalfe and Paterson collide under a monstrous Garryowen. Andrew Henderson desperately hoofs the ball into touch and the Scots breathe a sigh of relief.

8mins: Joost van der Westhuizen is being typically niggling at the scrums, turning over the ball in the process.

6mins: Scotland hooker Gordon Bulloch, on his 50th cap, and his fellow front-row forwards are struggling to come to terms with their opposite numbers in the set pieces.

4mins: Danie Coetzee is penalised for encroaching offside and Paterson finally moves the Scots into Springbok territory.

3mins: Scotland get a penalty as the scrum comes down. Chris Paterson boots the ball clear.

1min: Glenn Metcalfe is under immediate pressure but calmly gathers the high ball deep in his territory ahead of the clutches of Stefan Terblanche.

1400 BST: The game kicks off as Louis Koen boots the ball to the Scottish forwards.
