Grewcock hangs his head after his red card against Wasps |
England lock Danny Grewcock has been ruled out of England's tour of New Zealand and Australia. England coach Clive Woodward initially included the Bath captain as part of his 37-man squad to travel to New Zealand and Australia in June.
But the two-week ban he received after being sent off for punching England team-mate Lawrence Dallaglio will keep the 30-year-old out of the opening game against New Zealand Maoris and the Test against the All Blacks.
England coach Woodward said: "Danny and I have spoken at length about the possibility of him touring next month.
"We have mutually agreed that it's in our best interests that he stays in England for the duration of the tour.
I am obviously disappointed not to be going on the tour but Clive (Woodward) and I have reached the right decision |
"However, Danny will be joining the squad when it re-convenes in late July and he remains an important part of our plans as we prepare for the Rugby World Cup.
"I'd like to thank Bath for all the hard work they put into trying to get the appeal heard this week but we all accept that this will not take place at such short notice."
Bath decided against an appeal after hearing that the European Rugby Cup disciplinary committee was unable to guarantee a hearing before 2 June when England leave for New Zealand.
Grewcock's place in the squad has been taken by Leeds lock Tom Palmer.
Harlequins forward Alex Codling replaces Palmer in the England party heading to Canada for the Churchill Cup.
"I am obviously disappointed not to be going on the tour but Clive (Woodward) and I have reached the right decision, and I wish Tom and the squad every success for the three games," said Grewcock.
