Forward pair to miss Italy tour
John Kirwan has an 18-month contract with Italy
Italy have won just one Six Nations match
Italy coach John Kirwan has been forced to make another change to the squad to tour New Zealand after Calvisano's veteran prop Giampiero De Carli pulled out.

De Carli will be replaced by 27-year-old Stefano Saviozzi of Overmach Parma for the 29 May to 8 June tour.

Kirwan had already lost another prop, Andrea Lo Cicero, forcing him to call up inexperienced youngster Martin Leandro Castrogiovanni of Calvisano.

I want this group to reach the same standard as the top four nations in the world
Italy coach John Kirwan

On announcing the squad, Kirwan, who took over the coaching role from Brad Johnstone in April, vowed to make Italy the best side in Europe within five years.

The former All Black plans to dramatically improve the standard of a side that has won just one of its 15 Six Nations matches.

"I want to take Italy to success in the Six Nations within five years," said Kirwan.

"I will create an elite group of 75 players to work with and reach the highest competitive level.

"To do that I will need the support of clubs and a technical staff that guarantees quality control and continuity.

"I want this group to reach, both physically and technically, the same standard as the top four nations in the world."
