Quinnell backs Madden
Martyn Madden has been an inspiration for Llanelli

By BBC Sport Online's Jonathon Moore

Wales captain Scott Quinnell has suggested that Llanelli team-mate Martyn Madden could play a part in Graham Henry's international squad, before the end of the Six Nations championship.

Madden has enjoyed a superb season and has particularly impressed in the Heineken Cup for the Scarlets.

"Obviously Graham Henry and the coaching staff pick the side, but I would like to say that Martin is playing superbly at the moment," Quinnell said.

"He is playing some of the best rugby of his career, there's no doubt."

Madden, who is on the bench for Wales A against Ireland, has been a revelation at prop for the Scarlets this term.

His devastating runs with the ball in hand played a large part in Llanelli's 24-12 victory over the Tigers at Stradey Park.

And he made his presence felt again when they booked their place in the Heineken semi-finals with an impressive 27-10 win over Bath.

"Martin just needs to bide his time," Quinnell admitted. "If he keeps playing in the form he's in there's no doubt his time will come."

Quinnell added that Llanelli's victory at The Rec and Pontypridd's 17-15 Parker-Pen Shield win over Saracens have given Welsh rugby a much-needed boost ahead of the Six Nations.

"It's been vital for confidence," he said. "It's great that Welsh clubs can go away and win in the top competitions.

"It's vital we start well this time. It's going to be very difficult going out to Ireland but hopefully we can go out with confidence and create an upset."
