Basic errors to blame - Delaney

Nottingham director of rugby Glenn Delaney said his side were guilty of basic errors as they lost their opening fixture of the new Championship season.

The Green & Whites suffered a 24-13 defeat against Cornish Pirates despite leading 10-9 at the interval.

"We went from being in a position of control at 10-6 up to letting basic errors allow them into the game," Delaney told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"We conceded soft tries and when you do that it's hard to peg them back."

Winger Jack Cobden went over for a converted try and David Jackson also slotted a penalty to secure a 10-9 interval lead.

But Pirates hit back to win thanks to two Blair Cowan tries and some more reliable kicking from fly-half Jonny Bentley.

Nottingham's only points in the second half came from the boot of Greig Tonks who kicked one penalty.
