Johnson defended his side against criticism by some spectators
England coach Martin Johnson was impressed by his team's persistence and tactical nous as an experimental side beat Argentina 37-15 at Old Trafford.
"We had to be patient and take our points and try and build a good win," he said, defending a cautious approach which tested the patience of some fans.
"When you have shots at goal against Argentina you have to take them.
"Andy Goode kept his composure very well. It's not nice when people whistle you but you have to win the match."
As well as 22 points from the boot of Goode, Delon Armitage added to his growing reputation with two tries, and Johnson said he was glad to have him available for England's two Tests against Argentina, rather than being on the British and Irish Lions' tour.
"Delon is maturing as a player. He's taken his disappointment with the Lions very well," he said.
"He's done very well for us. I enjoy watching him play and being part of the team. He's with us until he gets the call from the Lions.
"I hope for his sake he does get the call, though it will be nice if it's after next Saturday."
Matt Banahan marked his first England cap with a touchdown as well, and was thrilled with his day's work.
"It's all about taking your opportunity because you don't know when it's your first and last time putting on an England shirt," said the Bath centre.
"You've got to play with all your heart and give everything. If you're good enough you will keep playing.
"I saw the space and just went through it. There was a bit of celebration there but all that was going through my head was, 'This is my first game, I've got to enjoy it'.
"I'll never forget this day and I'm definitely pinching myself."
