Clifton 31-41 Hartpury College

Rugby union

Hartpury College won a free-scoring Intermediate Cup final against Clifton to lift their third national cup in three successive seasons at Twickenham.

Matt Betty scored the contest's crucial try nine minutes from time as Hartpury reclaimed the lead in a see-saw game.

Betty had earlier opened the scoring and Jonny May ran in a hat-trick, but Clifton led twice as David Butler, Darren Barry and Phil Schmid scored.

However Matt Gilbert wrapped it up for Hartpury after Betty's decisive score.

Sam Dimmick also kicked four conversions and a penalty for Hartpury, while the boot of John Barnes added two conversions and four penalties for Clifton.

Hartpury now join Bath and Leicester as the only English clubs to win three national titles at Twickenham in successive years after previously lifting the Junior Vase in 2007 and the Senior Vase 12 months ago.
