Meehan angry over postponed match

Players and officials inspect the pitch
Parts of the pitch were deemed unplayable by the referee

Bath head coach Steve Meehan criticised referee Romain Poite after Saturday's Premiership match against Wasps was postponed 90 minutes before kick-off.

Poite said parts of The Rec were still unplayable despite Bath hiring giant heaters to thaw the pitch out.

"I'd have liked to wait a bit longer before making the decision, that's the most annoying aspect," said Meehan.

But Wasps head coach Shaun Edwards disagreed, saying: "The pitch was definitely not playable."

The game is now likely to be played on 31 January but the teams' England stars will not be available because of the start of the Six Nations the following weekend.

"The disadvantage comes to the supporters not being able to see some of these England internationals running around on that weekend. It's a great shame," added Meehan.

"The ground staff were exceptional, and I am more disappointed for them.

"They've been up all night to try and make sure this fixture went ahead.

"We don't like not playing. We are not a side that comes in and calls games off. It is very disappointing."
