London Irish full-back Peter Hewat takes on the Saracens defence

Tom Homer scored two tries on his Premiership debut as London Irish moved to second in the table courtesy of victory over Saracens.

Both sides landed a penalty apiece before Homer, 18, scored the first try.

Wikus van Heerden's try and a Glen Jackson penalty put Sarries ahead but a Peter Hewat penalty made it 11-11.

Richard Thorpe's try put the hosts back in front and although Jackson landed a third penalty, two Hewat penalties and Homer's second try saw Irish home.

London Irish head coach Toby Booth:
"Homer had a fantastic debut, two tries in front of a 9,000 crowd. It's all part of the grow-your-own policy at London Irish.

"We're getting people out at the other end now who are representing their country and the club have to take great credit for resourcing that."

Booth on man of the match Steffon Armitage:
"He's disappointed his brother's got picked for England before him and that's what drives him. It's all sibling rivalry."

Saracens coaching co-ordinator Richard Graham:
"They had a man in the bin, we were camped in their half and we let them off.

"We had a number of opportunities to win the game and, ultimately, we weren't good enough.

"We just didn't keep our composure, particularly in the kicking battle."
