Sale scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth has revealed he is excited at being called up for his first England tour. The 24-year-old Lancastrian has been named in a 32-man squad for the two Tests against New Zealand in Auckland and Christchurch in June. He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I can't wait - it's my first time. "I'd have taken this at the start of the year - to say I'd have four caps, a few starts, a try, and then go to New Zealand - I'm over the moon." The farmer's son from Blackpool emerged as a rising star during England's 2008 Six Nations campaign following some superb displays for Sale. | I think the Guinness Premiership is the ideal breeding ground because you're playing against top players week-in, week-out Sale and England scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth |
After making his senior international bow against Italy, Wigglesworth celebrated his first start by scoring the try which sealed a 24-13 win over France in Paris - a result which breathed new life into England's tournament. He believes the All Blacks will provide a stern test. "They will be a different kettle of fish which is going to be a massive challenge, but I think the Guinness Premiership is the ideal breeding ground because you're playing against top players week-in, week-out. "I went once [to New Zealand] with an exchange at school and then the year after on an England Under-18 tour for a couple of weeks - it's rugby mad."
