Southend director of rugby Kevin Harman is excited by what his young side could achieve, following a promising season. In their first campaign in National Two, the Warners Bridge Park outfit are eighth in the table with two games left to play. Harman told BBC Essex: "There's massive potential here. We've lost four, five, six games by one score and we've learnt some lessons this year. "As long as we learn those lessons and move forward we'll stay at this level." He added: "This is what it's all about, it's giving players in Essex and the East of England a quality environment to play some decent rugby in." | When we stepped up we saw it was faster, it was physical and I think we've done this league really proud Southend director of rugby Kevin Harman |
The Seasiders played their final home game of the season at Warners Bridge on Sunday, defeating already-relegated Nuneaton 41-15 after trailing 15-7 at the break. The result means Southend will finish the season comfortably in mid-table, a position that Harman is more than happy with. He said: "When we stepped up [from National Three] we saw it was faster, it was physical and I think we've done this league really proud. "Nobody has smashed us - Redruth away [a 40-17 defeat] was a bit of a shocker - but other than that we've always been competitive. "I realise we have got a lot of work to do - but if we're smart and the youngsters work hard then we'll do OK."
