Harlequins recorded only their second win in 14 matches as three late tries added to Worcester's worries. Will Skinner's early chip-and-chase try opened the scoring, with Hal Luscombe soon adding a second, before Rico Gear pulled one back for Worcester.
Five missed Quins penalties gave the visitors hope and with 15 minutes to go they trailed by just seven points.
But Steve So'oialo, Tosh Masson and Tom Williams scored for Quins so James Brown's late try was scant consolation.
Harlequins director of rugby Dean Richards: "We stood there wondering how they were so close to this, but if we were not creating opportunities I'd be really worried.
"We played what we thought was the right brand of rugby. I didn't want us to get into an arm wrestle. I thought that would play into their hands.
"All we want to do is play to our level. It's not about cricket scores."
Worcester director of rugby Mike Ruddock: "We're probably at the stage where I'll get a top ref in and get the boys to look at a video.
"I've done it in the past and if I can do it this week I will, although we've got a short turnaround.
"It's not desperation, it's about doing everything we can. The intent is there but we killed ourselves."
