Newcastle ran in four tries to outplay Sale and make a promising start to the new Premiership season.

The Falcons made the breakthrough late in the half when Tom May's try helped them to a 11-5 interval advantage.

Mark Mayerhofler extended their lead early in the second half, although Lee Thomas quickly responded for Sale.

Newcastle dominated after that, with tries from James Grindal and Ollie Phillips and a conversion and drop-goal from Toby Flood sealing the points.
