Ma'asi played at the 2003 World Cup |
Leeds Carnegie have signed 31-year-old hooker Viliami Ma'asi from Cornish Pirates on a two-year contract. Ma'asi is the club's third new signing, following the capture of fellow National League One players Alberto Di Bernardo and Joe Bedford.
"He was the stand-out hooker in National League One this season," said Leeds coach Stuart Lancaster.
"He has a great ball carrying ability and is hungry for the opportunity to play in the Guinness Premiership."
Ma'asi has won 25 caps for Tonga and played at the 2003 World Cup.
"I am looking forward to pulling on a Leeds shirt but I know it will be a big challenge to get in the team and keep my place," said Ma'asi.
"Our games against Leeds were some of the best matches last season and they were so close.
"Playing Leeds was always hard and there a number of good players in the same position as me, so I will have to work hard."
