Two tries by David Lemi sent 14-man Worcester to defeat at Bristol, as Craig Gillies was sent off late on.
A Worcester penalty in a threatening position was turned over after Gillies stamped on Joe El-Abd, who was yellow carded for holding his ankle in a ruck.
Lemi and Sam Cox scored to give Bristol an early lead but tries by Mark Tucker and Thinus Delport gave Worcester hope.
The lead given by Lemi's second and a drop goal by David Gray looked perilously slim until Gillies saw red.
Worcester director of rugby John Brain:
"We mauled it forward and we had an advantage so it's extremely unfortunate to give that up because I felt that we could snatch the game.
"I don't think that we deserved to win this game.
"We did pretty well but I think Bristol controlled possession and position better than us."
