I'm not going to make any excuses Josh Lewsey

Josh Lewsey has said he has no complaints about being dropped for England's final Six Nations game against Wales on Saturday.

Lewsey - who started the previous four Six Nations games - has been omitted from the 22-man squad, with Sale's Mark Cueto taking his place at full-back.

"I didn't have a great game against France, so it's fair enough really," Lewsey told BBC Sport.

"You have to take it on the chin and get on with it."

England beat France 26-18 on Sunday to keep themselves in the hunt for the Six Nations championship, but Lewsey was short of his usual standards.

"I've played 47 times for England, and I reckon I've only had a couple of bad games, but at the end of the day it's a fair call," he said.

"I didn't play well even in a style of game that I like and that suits me, and there's a lot of competition for back three places."

The 30-year-old said England head coach Brian Ashton had kept him informed about the decision.

"I spoke to Brian about it, the lines of communication were good," he added.

Lewsey has been named on the wing and at full-back for England this season, and he said he may have been the victim of his own versatility.

"I was really happy with my form at the start of the year, and I was just playing in a settled position all the time," he said.

"Both at club and international level, I want to get back to that. But I'm not going to make any excuses.

"You can say being versatile gets you into teams and squads, and it means you can fit in here, there and everywhere.
