Leicester increased bottom-of-the table Worcester's problems at Sixways but only after surviving a late battering.
Alesana Tuilagi set up Seru Rabeni to side-step over for the first try but after the early storm Worcester had the Tigers on the ropes.
This merited more than two Shane Drahm penalties and Ian Humphreys's penalty on half-time extended the Tigers' lead.
In the second half Leicester failed to kill off the game and were nearly made to pay as Worcester rallied late on.
After Drahm pulled back a penalty for Worcester following Rabeni's opener, set up by Tuilgai's one-handed pick-up, only last-ditch defending prevented Julian White touching down to extend Leicester's advantage.
This seemed to inspire Worcester, and with Leicester temporarily down to 13 men, Marcel Garvey wasted a great scoring chance, knocking on Drahm's cross-field kick inches short of the line.
Drahm landed two penalties to close the gap and Worcester did not deserve to go in four points adrift after Humphreys's penalty on half time extended Leicester's lead.
After the break, Leicester were again quickest out of the blocks but they were never given the time or space to truly dominate the match.
With time running out Worcester launched a brave counter attack in search of a vital score but all their efforts were in vain, and at the end they looked utterly drained.
Worcester coach John Brain: "I thought that was one of our poorest performances for some time.
"We had become a little more cohesive in the last six weeks, but we panicked and turned over a lot of ball.
"It's difficult in our position. Only one club goes down and we won't get out of it if we show a lack of composure and panic in games."
Leicester coach Pat Howard: "A lot of our guys hadn't played since last month's Heineken Cup game against Munster and I thought it showed, but we should be better than that.
"Our defence worked well and I can't recall too many Worcester line-breaks.
"Some of the guys got through a lot of tackles, but there were no stars out there."
