England coach Andy Robinson insisted he would not quit after seeing his side slip to a 25-14 loss to South Africa. "I'm not walking away from this, I don't believe I should," he said after seeing his faltering side lose their eighth game in just nine matches.
The world champions were booed off the Twickenham pitch again by their disgruntled fans and have now lost 13 of 22 matches with Robinson in charge.
His fate will be decided by a Rugby Football Union review next month.
Asked if he expected to be given the time he wants to turn around England's fortunes in the wake of defeats to New Zealand, Argentina and the Springboks, Robinson replied: "Currently, yes".
He also defended his players despite a succession of error-strewn displays, adding: "The guys are very, very down but they gave 100% today and didn't shirk.
"The four physical games they have had have been a very tough ask. We had tired players out there today and I think the guys have come through with credit.
"Obviously it is very frustrating to go up and have the game in control and then lose.
"For 20 minutes we played well. At 14-3 we showed we are an improving team and are moving forwards but the 10 minutes before half-time I found incredible.

"We made two errors for penalties and then another for them to score their try right at the death. It gave them the lift they needed before the break and it's something we've got to look at."
England have been criticised for trying to play an attacking game without having selected the right players to execute it.
But Robinson disagreed, insisting: "It's a work in progress. At times it is working and at times we are knocking the ball on. We have to build on our attacking game."
England skipper Martin Corry was also in defiant mood.
"Captaining your country is the best thing you can do," said the Leicester forward. "I'll always put my hand up to do it because it's a great honour and I love doing it.
"We have an appalling record and we're not hiding from that.
"The players are devastated with another poor performance. We got ourselves in a position to win the game but we let it slip away."
