Mapletoft gets RFU Academy post

Mapletoft took up his post at Saracens in May 2005
Former England fly-half Mark Mapletoft has been appointed as a Rugby Football Union National Academy Coach.

The 34-year-old joins on 1 January from Saracens, where he has been assistant academy manager for the last 18 months.

Mapleftoft, who won a sole cap in 1997, will have special responsibility for fly-halves and centres, and will assist Jon Callard with kicking coaching.

Mapletoft said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to work in such a specialist area."

He added: "For young fly-halves now there is so much to learn and I am looking forward to working with them and sharing my experiences with them.

"It's been a fantastic 18 months at Saracens but this is a great chance to develop my coaching career."
