Farrell has played just eight games since switching codes |
Andy Farrell's Saracens team-mate Thomas Castaignede believes the rugby league convert has the talent to be England's "next Will Greenwood". Farrell, 31, is due to play at centre for a World XV against the Springboks this weekend at Leicester.
Castaignede said: "He could become the next Will Greenwood to bring confidence to the team and organise it.
"Centre is where he should be and I think he'll improve there. Andy has got everything he needs to be successful."
The 31-year-old Farrell switched rugby codes with much fanfare, expense and considerable expectation in 2005.
With the Rugby Football Union subsidising the transfer and his wages, it was hoped he would quickly convert his prodigious rugby league skills into match-winning displays for Saracens and England.
But a combination of injuries, a car crash and uncertainty over his best position has held the former Wigan and Great Britain star back.
A rugby league forward, the 16st Farrell has been tried at blind-side flanker and inside centre in the 15-man code.
Since switching disciplines Farrell has made eight appearances and scored just one try.
Castaignede added: "He's got character, strength and the physical abilities.
"He just needs to practise at the highest level to play against the best teams and he has the chance to do that this weekend."
