Newly-promoted Harlequins consigned struggling Worcester to their eighth straight defeat with an easy victory at a soggy Stoop on Friday.

Wing David Strettle and centre Hal Luscombe scored either side of the break, as Adrian Jarvis added two penalties to his two conversions.

Worcester were 10-6 down at the break but were hit by a yellow card for Chris Horsman for a stamp on 58 minutes.

Quins took advantage from then on to seal their fifth unbeaten match.

England discard Andy Gomarsall was the star of the show for Harlequins, who moved away from the relegation zone.

  • Quins director of rugby Dean Richards:
"We were in Worcester's position not long ago but if they get a win shortly they will get that winning mentality and it could get very interesting.

"Our side has a confidence about them. We were very disappointed with some of our results earlier in the season but now our scrum is so solid and our line-out is functioning well.

"The spirit has always been there, we never lost our confidence and if a couple of bounces had gone our way we may not have been in the position we are now.

"We've got some big games coming up and we've got to go up to Newcastle again. There's no respite during the season."

  • Worcester coach Anthony Eddy:
"Everyone is pretty disappointed but there is a win not too far around the corner.

"We are all in this together. There's a strong bond between players and staff.

"When we start to be more precise about our possession we can mix it with the best of them. Discipline has been a problem this season but we thought we'd sorted it out.

"We've brought in (former England defence coach) Phil Larder and he'll be with us for seven weeks.

"We dominated possession in the second quarter of the game but we turned over a lot of ball. They played the possession game better than we did."
