Back-row Rhys Oakley was released by the Dragons this summer |
Leeds Tykes have signed Welsh international back-row Rhys Oakley and utility back Leigh Hinton. The pair, released by Welsh region Newport Gwent Dragons, have both arrived on two-year contracts. Tykes director of rugby Stuart Lancaster told the club website: "Rhys is a very talented young back-rower who will add a great deal to our squad. "I was surprised that he was released by the Dragons but am delighted to have secured his services." Plymouth-born Oakley, 25, has two Wales caps and has previously played in the English Premiership for Bristol. Hinton, 27, has played for Moseley, Birmingham Solihull, Orrell and Bedford in National Division One. "Leigh is a proven points-scorer in this division, both with his boot and as a try scorer," added Lancaster. "He has had a frustrating season last year and I know he is keen to put that behind him and make a fresh start with us. "He can play at full-back or in the centres and with his experience he will be excellent for our younger players to work with."
