Peter Sloane worked with the All Blacks in 1998 and 1999 |
Northampton have appointed former All Blacks assistant coach Peter Sloane to their backroom staff for next season. A former international forward, Sloane, 57, worked alongside John Hart and former Saints boss Wayne Smith with the All Blacks in 1998 and 1999.
He led the Auckland Blues to victory in the Super 12 tournament in 2003.
Saints director of rugby Budge Pountney said: "Peter's appointment shows huge ambition from Northampton to perform and compete on the biggest stage."
He added: "I'm sure he is looking forward to the different challenges that await him in the Premiership, and will face them head on with a sense of tenacity and intelligence."
Sloane, who visited Franklin's Gardens for three weeks when former Saints coach and fellow New Zealander Wayne Smith was at the club, said he is looking forward to his move to England:
"Northampton offers some exciting times ahead, looking at where the team is at the moment.
"They are working hard and there is a lot of potential there - it will be a very exciting environment to be in."
Nicknamed Slugga, Sloane will work alongside head coach Paul Grayson and assistants Frank Ponissi and Paul Larkin next year.
