| Steve Hanley plundered two late tries to send Sale nine points clear at the top of the Guinness Premiership. London Irish appeared to be heading for a win when captain Mike Catt, who had replaced Riki Flutey as kicker, slotted two penalties to snatch a 19-18 lead. But former England wing Hanley pounced in the 78th minute and injury time. Irish led 15-12 at the break with tries from Sailosi Tagicakibau, Riki Flutey and Delon Armitage, with Sale's Charlie Hodgson kicking four penalties. London Irish boss Brian Smith
"I want to focus on the positives. We had massive disruptions before the game with withdrawals and there are things we need to fix, such as the squandered points and scrum. "But we played our hearts out and I'm very proud of the players' efforts. We'll be a handful for anyone if we keep playing like that. "This was two good teams going at each other and anyone could have won. It was a 50-50 game." Sale coach Kingsley Jones
"It's early doors yet but Mark Cueto will have a scan on Saturday or Sunday. "His ankle is very swollen and our initial thoughts are that it's not great but it's too early to make a call. It could be ligament damage. "Jason Robinson is 50-50 as well. He took a bang on the hip and it's still early doors for him as well. It's a painful injury and we'll see how it settles down."
