England sevens star Mathew Tait has agreed a new one-year deal with Premiership side Newcastle Falcons. Tait, 20, was England's stand-out player as they claimed the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games on Friday.
"There was never any suggestion of Mathew leaving, but to have all the small print agreed now is a massive boost," said Falcons boss Rob Andrew.
Tait was the leading try scorer in the sevens event, where England lost 29-21 to New Zealand in the final.
"We have agreed the contractual details with Mathew, and we're very relaxed about the fact that the deal is only for one year," said Andrew.

"We did the same with Jonny Wilkinson when he first came to the club, and Taity is clearly at home here.
"He's had a very difficult last year after being thrown straight into a Six Nations match as an 18-year-old, but the club has helped him through that time."
Tait, who has scored 11 tries in his 36 competitive starts for the Falcons, will sign the new deal when he flies back from Australia.
He will now step down from the England sevens team to concentrate on playing for Newcastle and trying to force his way into the full England side.
"To win a medal in Australia is a fitting way to finish off what has been a hugely successful career in that code," said Andrew.
"We will now look to translate that form on to the 15-a-side stage, and over the next season we hope to see him develop in the Newcastle centres along with Jamie Noon."
