Fanolua will make an emotional farewell on 6 May at Kingsholm |
Terry Fanolua will leave Gloucester after signing a two-year deal with Brive, according to the French club. The 31-year-old announced last month that he would be leaving Kingsholm at the end of the season after opting not to see out the final year of his deal.
The Samoan centre has made more than 200 appearances in his nine years at Gloucester but a knee injury has restricted him this season.
"Another year here is just not viable for me," he said.
"I've taken the decision for me and my family," he added. "I couldn't join another Premiership side after putting my heart and soul into this club."
Fanolua, the club's leading scorer with 34 tries, has achieved hero status during his time with Gloucester and the club will dedicate their match against Wasps on 6 May to the centre.
He admitted: "Gloucester is my home away from home. I have met loads of great people and made really good friends and it will be very hard to leave them."
When Fanolua announced his departure last month, Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan said: "Terry is, quite rightly, one of the biggest and most respected names in the Premiership - not just at Gloucester.
"His record is simply phenomenal and there have not been many more influential individuals at the club in the last decade.
"But the decision will provide an opportunity for the youngsters we have in both Jack Adams and Anthony Allen to follow in Terry's footsteps."
